How To properly recycle a water bottle
One of the first individual mini-projects for this watershed project was to create a 'How To' booklet or comic. A How To, is a step-by-step product of ways to complete a task. We were assigned to make a How To, but to make it either eco-friendly, or relate to the watershed. A How To is mostly made up of illustrations, to give the reader a more easier way to complete that specific task. This is one of our first products that would go into our magazine. We started out by coming up with ideas of How To's that could easily be taught to the public. I immediately came up with a few ideas of what they could be, the options were:
- How to visit a watershed
- How to properly recycle a water bottle
- How to find a watershed in your local area
- How to protect your environment
I liked the way that it turned out, so I decided to keep it. I did this next draft in marker to see how it looked, before I spent a lot of time water-coloring it. I came up with the idea of having it be sort of like a flip-book, so I lined it up in a line, and had the words in the top of each box. Here is my second draft of my How To:
I really liked how it looked, but I got critiques from my classmates just in case. My next step was to paint it with water color. They said to maybe make it into a comic, and have it all on one page, so when we put it on our magazine, it won't be too confusing, having it on separate pages. I took that into consideration, and I followed through with it. I also made my stick figure guy more realistic. Here is my third draft of my How To:
I was happy with how this one turned out, but again, I asked my peers for advice. They said to erase the lines under all of the words, to make it look more professional. One of my classmates also said that I should not write all of the words down, because I could put them in on the computer, when it goes in the magazine. I took her advice and this is how my fourth draft came out:
I really liked how my fourth draft turned out, but I decided to make one last draft because of a few critiques I gave my self on this draft. I wanted to change the red labels on the water bottles, because when I painted them red, I was experimenting, and figured out that I should just leave it how it was originally, with a white label or pale blue. I also wanted to fix some minor details. For example, in this last draft, the water bottles look similar, but not exactly alike in shape, so that is one of the things that I'm going to fix on my final draft. Here is my fifth and final draft:
I'm really happy with all of my work through this mini-project. This proves that each time your really try to improve your work, it shows. I likes this mini-project because it was a great jump-start to creating the watershed magazine. (p.s. I'm going to add in the title in the top left box, and the rest of the words/instructions on photoshop, but these are just my painted versions).
