Into the Wild Project
Soda Can Stove:
I learned that there are a lot of parts to making a soda can stove. You have to cut up two soda cans, use both the bottoms and one of the middle parts (that's just for the heating part)! For the soda can stove, we didn't really work as a group/team, but I did get some help on cutting the soda can, after cutting myself a few times. What went really well was that it looked good, it almost looked professional, but sadly it didn't work. I enjoyed learning about all of the new tools I never even knew existed! The obstacles that I came across was that it didn't work. I put the lighter fluid in the bottom of the can, but it leaked out the bottom (it must've had a hole in the bottom of the can). Even though my can didn't work, My friend Gillian let me have some of her Ramen noodles that she made. It was really good! If I could do something different next time, I would probably spend more time on it. I would spend more time on it because I would make sure every little detail is fulfilled, so that when I would use it, it would make delicious Ramen noodles.

Mint Tin Headlamp:
I learned that when you are making a headlamp from scratch, everything is so specific! The way we had to wire/solder the wires to the specific colors was really confusing, so I got some help from my friend Jasmine throughout the whole process. We didn't really work as a group/team for the headlamp, but Jasmine helped solder the wires for me when I got burnt. What went really well was that feeling that you get when you've accomplished something that you've worked so hard on. I also learned a lot of new things (mostly tools and how to use them). Some obstacles that I came across throughout making this headlamp was that I got my Altoids can a few days after a lot of other people, so I had very limited time. I also got burnt a few times from the soldering iron or the hot glue gun (they were extremely hot)! If I could do something different next time, I would probably get some different LED lights, because the colored ones that I had were really difficult to see in the dark at Anza Borrego.

Solar Oven:
I learned that with the solar oven, we had to angle it correctly in order for it to toast our bread. Since it took so long for it to toast the bread, we only toasted four out of the eight slices of bread. When we toasted the bread, it didn't look toasted until we touched it, and found out it was stiffer than the normal bread. I learned that working in a group was pretty good, except I probably would've been better off by myself (gathering food, and making the oven). Although, they did remember all the food, the food was in a car that got lost (we still borrowed some of the interior food for the sandwich from other groups though). What went well was the taste of the sandwich. It was amazing! I enjoyed the suspense of seeing if the solar oven would work or not. The obstacles that we came across was that the ham was in another can that got lost along the way, that came later. We overcame it by borrowing some ham from a different group. If I knew that some of the food was going to get lost, I would've brought most of the food myself. I also would've brought more mix-ins because all that was in my sandwich was ham.
